You can be a comics specialist (increasing your royalties) within a couple days of starting. Also, you finish any challenges that require large numbers of books very quickly. While the royalties are smaller, the per-page royalty is comparable to other genres, so they stack up really quickly. Once you skill up you can write 3-4 per day. The cool thing about comics is that they are really fast to write. Taking a class, though, requires you to sign up for University and attend the Art College there. If you give your sim the Avant Garde trait, they automatically start with a street art kit, so it's really easy to get that level quickly.

You have to have level 1 of Writing and level 1 of either Street Art or Painting to start writing comics. One thing I tried today which I think requires the University Life expansion is writing comic books. Since they're smaller, you can write them faster and stack up the royalties even faster than with masterpieces. According to The Sims Wiki, the best $/page is the Sports book (which you used in your other video). I'm still wondering is if it's really worth it to switch over to masterpieces even when you can.
